Field Experience
Technology Use:
Field Experience was a very fun and helpful 3 weeks where I learned a lot about myself as a teacher. Rachael and I used technology in most of our lesson plans. We often used the lap top and projector to show power point presentations that we had created on Google Docs, we also used them to show our Digital Story on Jed Smith, and we often used the Elmo and projector to show students photo's of the explorers we were teaching about.
Digital Story:
Even though we didn't get to show our class the digital story on Health, we did get to show them the second digital story that we made about Jedidiah Smith. The students responded very well to the digital story which seemed to keep their attention. Mrs. H also loved the digital story and is excited to use it again in her future classes.
Service Learning:
Showing Mrs. H all about Google tools and Digital Storytelling was such a fun experience. She was very excited to learn a few new tricks that will make life a little easier when it comes to lesson planning and collaboration with other teachers. Rachael and I set Mrs. H up with a Google account and showed her how to create documents and presentations and how to share them with others. We shared all of the lesson plans and slide show presentations with her so she can have access to them for years to come. Mrs. H caught on quickly to the Digital Story telling and was more than happy to learn their was a quicker and more interesting way of presenting information than using Power Points. Rachael and I also explained to Mrs. H how to find big enough pictures on the Internet so they won't pixelate in her digital stories and slide shows. As one of the Google tools, we showed Mrs. H her Google Site, which she loved. She loved it even more after we explained how easy it is to create and maintain a Google Site! I had such a good time showing Mrs. H all that Rachael and I have learned about technology so that she can save some time and be able to share her ideas with her team teachers.

Week 8
Creative Commons
The Create Commons website is the tool for creators to use to refine the copyright we all automatically receive when we create something and make define how they want their creation to be used by others. It is also a way for people to see what works are available and how the can use the correctly according to the license the creator has on their creation. Creative Commons offers 6 different licenses depending on the types of rights you want to be put with your creations.
First there is the "Attribution" license which allows users to to modify the creators works and distribute them as long as the original works are sited. this licenses is one of the more accommodating licenses offered.
Next there is the "Share Alike" license which is similar to the Attribution license in that the user may modify the original works but when citing and crediting, the original creator is credited for the modified product and that product is licensed using Share Alike terms.
The "Attribution No Derivatives" license is way more restricting than the previous two. The user may redistribute the original work as long as it is credited to the creator and remains exactly as the creator made it and is used in whole.
"Attribution Non-Commercial" license allows the user to modify the work non-commercially as long as the creator is acknowledged. With this license the new product doesn't not have to licensed under the same terms as the original work.
"Attribution Non- Commercial Share Alike" license combines many terms of previous licenses in that others may modify original work non-commercially as long as the creator is credited AND the new product is licensed under the same terms.

7 Steps in Creating a Digital Story
Phase 1: Pre-Production-Finding and organizing ideas worth communicating
Stage 1: Writing a Script- Brainstorming and development of the story and voice takes place during this stage.
Stage 2: Planning the Project- Story board is created using all elements of digital story: text, images, transitions, special effects, titles, and sounds, are added at this point to illustrate the BIG picture.
Stage 3: Organization of all files and images so the video-editing software can access them when creating video. Failure to organize all your files into sub-folders for each project will result in unnecessary and extra work on the part of the digital story author.

Stage 4: Making the Voice-Over- The process of taking the previously created script and digitally recording someone reading them, adding emotion and meaning to the words and not simply reciting the text.
Stage 5: Gathering and Preparing Resources- Author will now following along with the storyboard and gather all images and sounds that will be added to match with previously recorded voice-over of the script.

Stage 6: Putting it all together- All finishing elements are added to the product to create a Rough Cut which is then edited finalized into the Final Cut.

Week 4
Tell me 2 things you learned from How to Maximize Google and how these two items can be used in a classroom for student learning or teacher instruction.
I had no idea Google could be used for a calculator! I typed in (sqrt(359)) to test it out and it worked, of coarse, but It was still way cool! This could be a useful tool for classrooms when quick calculations need to be performed and a calculator is not available.The Tilde sign is also a tool I didn't know about that could help teachers prepare lessons and also help students do research. Knowing how one search on Google can end up in an almost endless number of results, I think it is good that Google has come up with many tools to help narrow down possible answers. This is especially helpful in the classroom setting so students and teachers can spend less time sorting through pointless websites and spend more time finding the resources they need.

The message of the video was very thought provoking and made me review my personal beliefs of having a well technology integrated classroom. I think they could have said the same message with a less depressing and more inspiring video but the idea is still the same: we are cheating the future of our children by not using technology in their everyday education. If we expect them to be the leaders, teachers, inventors and creators of the future, we need did to use all the tools we have especially when it comes to technology. The video made the point that we all want our own children to get the best education therefore we need to ensure every child has the same opportunity to learn all they can to become positive influence on their society.
